Today, we share the double rainbow story of Streep and Diablo, two extraordinary cats whose vibrant lives intertwined with the hearts of their devoted humans, Diane and Jurgen, and their son Daffyd. They all live in Vlaardingen in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland. Streep and Diablo's tale deserves to be told, for it is a testament to the enduring bond between humans and their feline companions.
The King and the Purr Machine
Streep, whose name fittingly translates to "stripe" in Dutch, is a tabby cat. He was Diane's loyal companion for nearly fifteen years. Despite being born with a heart defect, Streep never allowed it to hinder his protective nature. He was always by Diane's side, as an ever-present source of comfort and strength.
On one memorable occasion, he bravely chased away a burglar, showcasing his unwavering devotion. When Diane encountered a creepy spider, Streep would race to her side, his eyes sparkling mischievously, ready to save the day. Moreover, during moments of sadness, Streep would approach her, tenderly pawing her face and nuzzling his head against hers, offering solace in the purest form.
Diablo, on the other hand, radiated boundless joy with his vibrant personality. At the sound of Diane's call, he would leap into action, bounding towards her and perching himself on her shoulder, nestled in the crook of her neck. Each night, Diablo found comfort atop Diane, and as she awakened, his precious face would greet her with warmth and affection. His purring resonated throughout the house, akin to the gentle revving of a motorbike, a symphony of contentment.
Unfortunate Events
Tragically, Streep's resilient heart eventually succumbed, and he fell gravely ill. Diane and Jurgen faced the heartbreaking decision to put him down, a decision fraught with anguish. Streep's fighting spirit never wavered, but his body grew weak, and the time came to bid him a dignified farewell. In the arms of their son Daffyd, who had grown up alongside Streep, they offered their final moments of love and comfort. Diablo, though young at only one and a half years old, also met a tragic fate. Venturing too far from home, he found himself near a busy road, startled by sudden bursts of fireworks. In a devastating twist of fate, Diablo was struck by a passing car, his vibrant life extinguished in an instant.
The heart-wrenching news arrived via a tearful call from the animal ambulance, forever etching sorrow in Diane and Jurgen's hearts. 💔 With heavy hearts, they welcomed Diablo's lifeless body back home, allowing their other cherished feline companions, Chico and Snoet, to bid their tearful goodbyes. 💔
Painful Goodbye
The loss of Streep and Diablo left an immense void, an ache that reverberated within Diane and Jurgen's hearts. In an effort to preserve their treasured memories, they found solace in keeping their ashes and pawprints at home, ensuring that Streep and Diablo would forever be a part of their family's legacy. Their presence, though physically absent, continues to resonate in the depths of their love. ❤️
Not being able to bid a proper farewell to Diablo remains a painful regret for Diane. She often finds herself lost in contemplation, yearning for the opportunity to hold him close, to look into his eyes one last time, and to convey her unending love.
Cat Friends and Siblings Snoet and Chico, Zazoe and Banzai
Chico and Snoet, the remaining feline family members, always had a harmonious relationship with Streep and Diablo. Streep, with his regal presence, held the position of the alpha cat. Diane still fondly refers to him as King Streep. Both Streep and Snoet were siblings from the same litter, creating an unbreakable bond.
The loss of Streep and Diablo resonated throughout the household, leaving Chico in a state of despair. He refused to eat, wandered aimlessly, and called out for his dear friend Diablo. The weight of grief consumed him, manifesting in self-inflicted scratches beneath his chin, painful wounds that mirrored the ache within his soul.
Recognizing the need for companionship, Diane embarked on a search for kittens at a shelter, hoping to provide Chico with a playmate. However, Snoet, now sixteen years old, often struggled to match Chico's energy due to her dementia and arthritis. Nevertheless, Chico's heart quickly embraced the new furry arrivals, Zazoe and Banzai. He assumed the role of a loving father figure to them, nurturing and protecting them as if they were his own. Snoet, despite her limitations, found joy in snuggling with the kittens, offering them gentle grooming sessions.
As time went on, Chico's self-inflicted scratches ceased, and Snoet, once frail and diminished, began to regain weight and rediscover the simple pleasures of life.
