Abril & Mayo: Two Rescue Stories from Spain, One Journey to a new Home in Leipzig, Germany
Every rescued cat has a story. Some begin quietly. Others begin on the street, in places where no one knows how the story will end.
Abril and Mayo had two very different beginnings. But eventually, their stories would cross paths and take them on the same journey — from Spain to Germany.

Abril: rescued in Ceuta
Abril was rescued from the streets of Ceuta and taken to a local shelter. When she was taken in to be spayed, something unexpected was discovered: she was pregnant.
Her story could have taken many different turns. Instead, it led her to Luis. When they met, Abril climbed onto his lap — and, in that moment, something clicked. Luis adopted her.
But Abril's journey was only beginning. From Ceuta, she eventually made her way to Madrid, where a completely different chapter of her life was waiting.
Mayo: the little cat by the containers
Mayo's story began in Ronda, Málaga. Irene discovered him near some rubbish containers close to where she worked. He was frightened and difficult to catch, so a trap cage had to be used.
Mayo was the only cat who went inside. When he was finally rescued, it was clear that he needed help. One of his eyes was injured. But he was safe. And from that moment, his life started moving in a completely different direction.
Two stories become one
Abril and Mayo didn't start their lives together. They didn't come from the same place. They weren't rescued at the same time. But eventually, their paths crossed.
And then came another unexpected chapter: Germany. Irene, Luis, Abril and Mayo set off together from Madrid, beginning a three-day road trip across Europe.
Their destination was Leipzig. For Abril and Mayo, it wasn't simply a long car journey. It meant leaving behind everything they knew and discovering a completely new environment.
The journey home
Three days on the road. Different stops. New smells. Strange sounds. Long hours in the car.
For their humans, it was a journey from one country to another. For Abril and Mayo, it was something much bigger. It was another transition in lives that had already experienced so much change.
But this time, they weren't alone. They had each other. And they had people who had chosen to give them a chance.
From rescue to a new life
Abril and Mayo's story is a reminder of something important: Rescue isn't the end of a story. It's the beginning of a new one.
A cat can go from the streets to a shelter, from a shelter to a home, and from one country to another. The journey may not always be easy. But with patience, preparation and the right people beside them, a completely different future can become possible.
Abril started her journey in Ceuta. Mayo started his in Ronda. Their stories eventually met in Spain. And together, they travelled all the way to Leipzig.
Two rescued cats. Two completely different beginnings. One shared journey home and now ONE FAMILY of 4.
