Miel: A Blessing from the “Cat Distribution System”

ree

When you are ready for a cat, the universe will send you one, unexpectedly - that is how the Cat Distribution System works, and Miel’s sudden presence is an example of this miraculous system.

On a typical day in 2020, Miel found her destined human family while wandering around and meowing on a street of Lima, Peru. No one knew exactly where she was from, whether she already had a family, but there was one thing the family knew for sure: Miel was a gift - she appeared to be a sweet girl with a relatively well-cared appearance. They decided to feed Miel some food, and just like that, Miel came closer to the chosen family, little by little. Then one day, the little girl finally set her tiny paws into their garage, and at that exact moment, she also stepped into her human family’s heart.

Moving into a Home 🏡

Right from the beginning, Miel seemed to know exactly where to go and whom to follow. Despite being a street cat that refused to live with humans, whenever Miel bonded with the family, she always looked for them afterwards.

“Even if she stayed partly outside, she followed us upstairs.”

Not only did Miel find her humans, but she also found a home. At first, she hesitated to enter the house fully, and she only played around the stairs outside instead. Understanding this, her human got her a nice place to stay - a little cardboard house on the stairs outside their home, with blankets, food, and water provided every day. She can go anywhere and come back with her little spot awaited, fulfilled, and warm. Miel enjoyed her spot so much that she barely wandered too far anymore, and chose to stay on the stairs or take small walks around only. She even slept inside the house at night - with permission from the human parents, when they found out she was pregnant.

Everything made Miel feel truly like a part of the family.

Motherhood and New Beginnings 🐾

The news of Miel’s pregnancy was discovered during a vet visit. The family carefully prepared for her a birthing suite in their bedroom, and Miel was so excited that she made herself comfortable in her human’s bed.

The birth was remarkably peaceful. Miel handled everything quietly on her own. The family barely noticed until they looked under the bed and saw tiny shapes moving - three beautiful kittens who appeared as suddenly as their mother had entered their lives. Miel embraced motherhood, caring for her three kittens as they grew over the next three and a half months.

When the time came, two kittens were adopted together, and one went to someone the family knew; all found loving homes. At first, Miel searched for her babies, but soon returned to her usual self. About a month later, she was spayed, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life as a beloved member of the family.

Miel soon developed the hobbies of a spoiled indoor cat. She loves sleeping, boiled chicken, and attention. She loves to climb on top of anyone available, purring loudly, kneading with her paws, and demanding playtime even when her human is busy. She will welcome her family home with loud "shouts" as if asking, "Where have you been?" She snores when she sleeps and moves like a little zombie, seemingly lost in dreams.

Miel has always been a well-behaved feline girl. She used to be hyperenergetic and curious, but spaying has made her even calmer. She doesn't scratch furniture or make messes. She simply exists as the perfect companion, having chosen her family wisely and knowing exactly how to get the attention she deserves.

A Message of Hope ✨

ree

The joyful transition in Miel’s life delivers an essential message to us humans: adoption is the best option. Yet, every tiny grain of sand counts - rescuing an animal, sharing a post, or calling for assistance when you see one injured is a precious help to animals.

Miel’s human family visits Albergue Salma shelter when they can, and loves spending time at cat cafés - the perfect combination of cats and coffee. Their dream is to one day open their own cat café, promoting adoption and care while giving visibility to the cat community and the ongoing issue of overpopulation.

On their page @miel_honeycat, Miel’s family is not always active because human life is fast and complicated, but they share what needs support, little by little.

The Cat Distribution System works in mysterious ways.

When you're ready, your cat will find you.

To cats waiting for homes, Miel believes the world is changing. Humans are realizing they need us as much as we need them. Have patience and faith - your human families will soon find you.

And to the community, adoption changes lives. The experience you gain when adopting is not something someone else can tell you about, but is what you live in, and you feel it. Even if you don't consider yourself a “dog person” or "cat person," when an animal chooses you, just follow your instinct. But remember to be responsible. If your life is too busy and you're never home, it is fine not to adopt. Instead, you can offer help in other ways: volunteer once a week, support shelters or cat cafés, attend events, donate monthly, or simply share posts on social media.

And for the final message, Miel and her beloved family want to say: Cats are incredible beings who change the lives of those who adopt them. Just as Miel changed theirs - one meow, one step into the garage, one purr at a time.
