However, surprises were looming over the horizon. About a week after adopting Van Gogh, Maria took him to the vet for his first medical check-up. What she discovered on that visit left her stunned: Van Gogh was not a boy, but a lovely girl!
Brave Kitty Overcoming Adversity
Not everything was fun and games though. Less than a month after her arrival, Van Gogh got sick. She was dull, refused to eat and appeared weak. After the vet consulted Van Gogh, he diagnosed her with panleukopenia, a viral disease.
Panleukopenia is a serious disease that affects the gastrointestinal system and can be especially dangerous in young kittens. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite.
The days that followed were challenging for both Van Gogh and her family. With love and determination, they fought alongside their brave kitty to help her overcome the illness. Thanks to her fighting spirit and the professionals who treated her, Van Gogh finally beat panleukopenia.
Maria's Unwavering Love
Unfortunately, Van Gogh’s suffering did not end with panleukopenia. The kitten suffered a couple of epileptic seizures, which left Maria worried and frightened.
