We Are Jay, June & James — This Is Our Story

Hi there, fellow cats and humans.

We’re June, Jay, and James — three very different purrsonalities living under one roof, each with our own quirks, routines, and special bonds. Together, we make quite the trio… even if we don’t always agree on everything.

Our Humans (a.k.a. Our Staff)

We share our home in Purmerend, The Netherlands, with our human cat mom Nancy, cat dad Tim, and since 2020, our little human brother Mason.

June: I’ve been here the longest. I met my pawrents back in 2013 when I was born in a litter from friends of theirs. They had first pick… and obviously, they chose me. Purrfect decision.

Jay & James: We joined later, when our humans were looking to expand the team. At first, they thought they’d go for two ginger kittens (Jay was part of that plan), but things changed quickly — and suddenly it was one ginger (Jay) and one grey (James). Balance restored.

What’s in a Name?

June: It all started with me. I was born in June, so the name just made sense. After that, our humans stuck with the “J” theme — and that’s how Jay and James got their names too.

Who We Are (According to Ourselves)

June: Instagram meowdel. Garden princess. Professional ninja.Rain? Love it. Being outside? Always. I walk my personal catwalk along the fence and occasionally bring home dragonflies as trophies. Indoors, I know exactly how to claim my space, and in winter, I sleep royally between humom’s legs. I’m independent, stylish, and fully in control.

James: Big, handsome, and always alert — especially when it comes to falling shower droplets (someone has to monitor those). I open doors myself, manage my own toys, and protect this house from intruders (Brutus, I’m looking at you). By day, I’m an affectionate mama’s boy. By night, I run my own chaos operation. Say the word “bird,” and I’m instantly activated.

Jay: Petting? Prefer not. Kisses? Absolutely not. I decide when attention happens — usually with cat dad on the couch or with Mason on his bed. I talk a lot (someone has to keep communication flowing). My laser pointer is a daily priority, and butterflies are my weakness. I may not be the biggest cuddler, but I am one of a kind.

Our Unique Bonds

What makes our family special is that we all have our own relationships with our humans.

June: I love spending the entire night with our hooman cat mom, or staying close while she works from home. Occasionally, I’ll join cat dad on the couch — especially during his sim racing sessions. Mason? I’ll be honest… he intimidates me a little.

James: Humom is my favorite. I always want to sit on her lap (never cat dad’s). But if cat dad is petting Jay, I might get a bit jealous and drop some subtle hints. Mason’s pets? Approved.

Jay: Lap time is reserved exclusively for cat dad. Sleeping happens on Mason’s bed — though not all night, because I might start playing with his feet at 3 AM. Humom gets love too… occasionally.

Remembering Jazz

We used to have another cat sibling: Jazz.

She was truly special — sweet, playful, and full of personality. She would have been best friends with Mason. Even now, little pieces of her live on in us, and our pawrents often notice those similarities and smile.

About Our Neighbor: Brutus

June: Cat Brutus first showed up in our garden in 2018, and that’s when our ninja adventures began. We used to spend hours practicing moves together. As we’ve grown older, we do it less — but he still visits almost daily. You could say he’s part of the extended cast.

Our Daily Lives & Favorites

June: My perfect day is mostly outdoors — enjoying the rain, walking my fence-catwalk, practicing ninja moves, and inspecting the garden. I like peace, space, and cuddles on my terms. When it comes to food… sometimes I eat with my paw. Why not? Favorite toy? I don’t really need one.

Jay: My day truly begins when the laser pointer appears — that’s what I live for. I also enjoy watching butterflies and strategically spending time with my favorite humans. I like toys I can chase or guard (and no one else is allowed near them). Food is fine in general, but I definitely have opinions when it comes to treats.

James: My daily highlights? Waiting for shower droplets like it’s a national sport and analyzing birds (while talking to them extensively). At night, I patrol the house. I’m not picky with food — if it’s edible, I’m a fan. String toys are my ultimate weakness. The longer the string, the better.

Our Message to Other Cats (and Their Humans)

Be unapologetically yourself.

Every cat is different — from chaos king to ninja queen — and that’s exactly how it should be.

One Last Thing…

Cherish the small moments.

A gentle head bump. Sitting together on the couch. That one funny meow. A favorite toy.

That’s what it’s really all about.

🐾With love, June, Jay & James
