Meet Jeeves, a Tuxedo Cat Living on a Boat in London

Hello! I’m Jeeves, from London.

Jeeves
Jeeves

And yes, I live on a narrowboat on the canals with my pawrents: proof that cats can live on boats too.

I didn’t plan this life. It sort of… happened. Much like me.

I was a small surprise kitten. My mum had me just before getting spayed. My siblings were adopted quickly, and I was the one left waiting. Not rejected. Just… pending. Then two hoomans who already lived on my boat decided I looked like a cute future shipmate.

Bold judgement.

My first day on board was spent under the table for 24 hours. Boats make opinions too, but in the form of annoying noises. Engines start. Floors vibrate. Nothing stays where you left it. I expressed my concerns loudly and often.

After that, I realised something important: this boat wasn’t dangerous…. it was mine!

Once that was clear, things settled. I set boundaries. My hoomans learned them. We live in harmony now… mostly 🐾💖

Life by the canal, observed properly

Living on the water has made me an expert watcher. Turns out life on a boat with a cat is never boring.

I chitter at ducks and seagulls from my window. They deserve commentary. But the real entertainment is hoomans on the towpath. My pawrents put a sign in the window with my name on it, so strangers greet me personally as they pass by.

I appreciate this. Recognition matters 😺

About the river incidents…

Yes, I’ve jumped into the river more than once. No, it wasn’t bravery. It was curiosity. Followed by regret… and immediate memory loss.

I am one of those adventurous cats with an extremely poor ability to learn from experience. Please don’t expect any character development here.

What a perfect day looks like

05:00 — Drop something on my parents’ heads. Jump onto a stomach for a soft landing.07:00 — Breakfast 😻08:00 — Sprint around the boat at full speed.09:00–18:00 — Sleep in the nice big empty bed. Extra points if I’m under the duvet.18:00 — Dinner, plus interruption of all human activities.Evening — Window seat, occasional zoomies, light chaos.Night — Move into the bedroom, relax, and prepare for tomorrow.

I like routine, I just use it creatively.

What I’m saying when I talk (a lot)

When I meow, prrp, or join phone calls, my message is always the same:

“I’m more important. Please pay attention to me.”

I truly believe clear communication keeps relationships healthy. It’s probably a tuxedo cat personality thing.

Why I feel safe here

On the boat, attention is constant. Not as much as I’d like, obviously. But enough.

Enough to know I’m seen. Enough to know someone is always aware of where I am, what I’m doing, and whether I’m about to make a bad decision near water again. Enough hands, voices, and company.

I don’t need grand gestures. I don’t need to be fussed over all day. I just need presence. Someone there, someone who notices.

That’s how I know I’m loved.

If I had to describe my life right now in one feeling, it wouldn’t be calm, lucky, or safe. It would be mischievous 😼

Because feeling safe doesn’t make me boring. It gives me confidence, which, in my case, tends to lead to curiosity, opinions, and occasional poor choices.

But always feeling at home, like a cat living on a narrowboat.

A message from me to the world

Hoomans: now is the time to really step up and give your cats all the treats they deserve. Fail to do so, and we’ll go elsewhere.

You’ve been warned🐾
