Winky's Second Chance

Some rescue stories stay with you forever. For Save a Gato, Winky is one of them.

Born without eyelids, Winky spent years surviving as a feral cat on the streets of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Every day was a struggle, as he lived with constant pain while trying to survive outdoors.

When Save a Gato finally managed to rescue him, his life took a remarkable turn. Winky was matched with an adopter in Virginia who was committed to providing the specialized veterinary care he desperately needed. After years of hardship, he finally experienced what every cat deserves: comfort, safety, and a loving home.

His journey isn't over just yet. Because Winky is feral, he can't simply be transported like most adopted cats. One of Save a Gato's volunteers will personally accompany him on the flight to Virginia to ensure he arrives safely. The rescue is currently raising funds - about $500 in total - to cover the volunteer's airfare and Winky's airline pet fee, helping make his journey to his forever home possible.
